The right to erasure — colloquially the right to be forgotten — lets individuals demand deletion of their personal data under specific conditions. Here's how it applies to scheduling, when you (or your clients) can invoke it, and what the process looks like end-to-end.
When Article 17 applies
The right applies when: (a) the data is no longer necessary for the original purpose, (b) consent is withdrawn and no other lawful basis exists, (c) the data was unlawfully processed, (d) erasure is required to comply with law, or (e) the data relates to a child and was collected under the Article 8 consent rules.
What your scheduling tool must do
Upon a valid Article 17 request, the tool must erase the data without undue delay (typically 30 days). It must also notify any recipients (sub-processors) who received the data, so they can erase it too.
The request workflow
(1) Client emails you requesting erasure. (2) You verify their identity (typically via email confirmation from the address on file). (3) You log the request and the deletion in your records. (4) You delete in your scheduling tool (self-serve if available) and confirm back to the client. (5) If the scheduling tool has sub-processors, the tool's deletion cascades automatically.
Exceptions
You can refuse erasure if the data is necessary for: freedom of expression, compliance with a legal obligation, public interest in public health, archiving purposes, or the establishment/exercise/defense of legal claims. For booking data, these exceptions are rarely applicable — most erasure requests should be honored.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if my client's erasure request would break my tax records?
You can retain the minimum data needed for tax-record compliance (usually name + amount + date — not full booking metadata). Delete everything else.
