Layer 1: reCAPTCHA v3 (Invisible)
Cal Clear uses Google's reCAPTCHA v3 on all booking pages. Unlike reCAPTCHA v2 (the checkbox puzzles), reCAPTCHA v3 is completely invisible to legitimate users — it scores each submission in the background and automatically blocks bot submissions without user friction. Real humans book without seeing any challenge; bots are blocked.
Layer 2: IP Rate Limiting
Cal Clear limits the number of booking attempts from any single IP address within a time window. This prevents automated flooding attacks where a bot makes hundreds of bookings rapidly. Even if a bot somehow passes reCAPTCHA, IP rate limiting caps the damage.
Layer 3: Email Verification
Email verification is optional and off by default; you can turn it on per booking link. When it's on, the invitee must click a verification link in their email before the booking is confirmed. Bots without access to a real inbox can't complete that step, so confirmed bookings come from a real email address.
